Saturation in Qualitative Research

Saturation in qualitative research can mean many things: data saturation, code saturation, or saturation of themes, meaning and more. This video explains some of the differences, how it engages with recruitment and sampling, and how to make sure you can identify saturation through on-going analysis. It shows Quirkos (www.quirkos.com) for qualitative research, and some of the issues raised by qu...

IPA or Interpretive phenomenological analysis is a key method in qualitative research, and is about more than just the analysis and interpretation. This beginners guide introduction video explains how roots in psychology mean it should be applied with a nearly therapeutic eye, and how it affects all parts of the research design. It also shows practical examples of coding and interpreting qualit...

Constant Comparative Analysis in Qualitative Research
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.Год назад
When analyzing qualitative data, it's easy to get caught up in coding. But stopping to compare the data across participants, codes and coders is really important to build the context that helps you understand the data. Constant comparison method comes from grounded theory, but Dr Daniel Turner will show how it can be applied to any analytical approach. The practical tutorial covers constant com...

Loving quirkos, but it is a shame that the web version has more options and features than the software version on my Mac
Fab explanation, thank you
Having 'an assistant' who can be in the background to handle 'stuff' is common advice but not commonly followed by students (in my experience). Perhaps they are nervous about being observed, or worry about the role of that second person, sometimes called a moderator. What does everyone else think?
amazing video - ive watched this so many times and its so good, thank you.
Please ask any questions on focus groups in the comments, or share your own tips!
Sir in semi structured interview the researcher will use an open ended research questions ?
Yes, the wording is a bit strange, but semi-structured usually means open-ended questions, but with a guide and good idea about likely topics
@@Quirkos thank you for your reply
I struggled alot with how slow the desktop one worked; after watching this I have resubscribed; this is a great improvement and im recommending it to other colleagues
I propose my dissertation this week and this video really helped!
I was just curious I do not know if you mentioned this but would a Cafe mess with participant anonymity?
Good question - if you are going to be dealing with personal or sensitive topics where someone could overhear, a public setting can be difficult. Always good to offer a private (safe) space as an option if you are able to
?
Can you use it to to find out how employee make sens of existing CSR initiatives in their organisation?
This sounds like a suitable line of inquiry for IPA...
5:08
Does it support Filipino language?
Yes!
You're Awesome dude!
How subtle or substantial would the addition of a narrative approach be in IPA - narrative phenomenology?
Could work well, see www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7018461/ for example
Brilliant!
The elephant metaphor is nice and digestible. Thanks
You sir are brilliant. You explained that for perfectly and as a man doing my dissertation right now, thats just what I needed :D
Thank you !
How do I export the memos?
You can export them in the CSV/XLXS export, they appear as an extra sheet. They are also at the bottom of the Report
Thanks! I'm wondering: once we have used quirkos to find the themes, what do we do then? Where in Quirkos can we record all our deep analysis ie relating of the themes to each other, to the overall question, to the literature, to a new finding, etc. How do we 'export' qualitative theme data in ways that help us in the next step, including writeups?
You stole my mind. i wish that question can be answered. Yes, we have derived our themes and sub themes from coding our data. We now have them in hand, how do we use them to begin analysis?
This is very helpful. Thank you!
Would you please share a tutorial video on how we can use Quirkos for analyzing structured/identical questions to multiple respondents? I can share a data set if that would help you. Thank you sir.
Thank you for this Dr. T! I found it useful. One question though about what you said on why people say they have stopped the data collection (saturation). Could there be a better answer? And what if the situation is indeed saturation?
Good points, there's more in the blog post...
Hi there I am loving your product however am looking for a video to demonstrate how to use the quick coding table, the written instructions are not that clear for me. Please help, I am urgently needing to code 61 semi-structured qualitative interviews. Thanks Otila
Very helpful information. Thank you.
Very good!! Thanks
Promo SM 💘
An amazing breakdown of how to code qualitative data. Nearly all of the information about how to use coding on google is just defining what it is with no examples. This video saved me from hours of work combing through results that dont help at all. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much.
Hi, I joined your live chat but I am not sure you saw my last question. I am using QUIRKOS currently but I am overwhelmed with the number of codes. 1. Very simply how do I Get To the themes? 2. How do I upload the codes and the memos to a word document?
Sorry to miss that - we actually have a video on that, as it's a common problem: ruclips.net/video/1erIajGquxg/видео.html
2 - You can generate a Report, and then choose to save as word/docx
I love everything about it
Thank you for the great explanation!
Thank you Dr Turner...this video was a great help with my dissertation analysis. I gained a distinction in my MSc
thank you Sir it was helpful.
Please go straight to the point. There is too much ba bla... beating around the bush... turning me off.
This was extremely helpful. I’m defending my doctoral proposal in one week. Thank you!
Good luck!
Thank you this was very helpful as I was doing an annotated bibliography on various qualitative studies :)
I struggle to grab the text to add to quirks... its not a smooth process. Is this a bug or there's a better trick?
What type of computer and browser are you using? support@quirkos.com can also offer more assistance
If you are using macOS, try using Firefox
Thank you so much for this clear tutorial, this is so much easier to use and affordable compared to the other coding apps. Thank you.
Didn't quite get the email
support@quirkos.com
How would you use properties for focus groups?
You can use them to tag which group, and the different participants in the group (useful if they are in more than one)
The sound is so low
Very didactic explanation! Thanks for sharing tour knowledge!!!
The subtitles in this video come from our own automated transcription service, so much more accurate than the RUclips auto-transcribe! www.quirkos.com/learn-qualitative/qualitative-automated-transcription.html
Thanks a lot, this video literally opened my eyes. brief to the point.
At this stage and struggling. This is insightful.
If you want to read more about IPA, ask us in the comments, or read our summary article: www.quirkos.com/blog/post/intro-interpretative-phenomenological-analysis-summary/
Simple and easy to follow. Unfortunately the comparison stage of analysis wasn’t really dealt with like the other 2.
Good point - this is more difficult to demonstrate as it depends so much on the data, but would be worth a follow-up video
